The Lake District, which covers 885 square miles and is populated by just over 42,000 people, was designated National Park status in 1951 and is arguably one of the world’s most stunning areas of outstanding natural beauty.
There is such a wide range of activities to be enjoyed in the spectacular and distinctive surroundings, such as a jaunt on one of the wonderful steam trains, a leisurely sail on a lake, or simply throwing a ball around in the impressive open space.
Romantic getaways can be enjoyed by the young – and less young! – explorers, who can indulge in private strolls, or more challenging walks together, and then relax in a cosy inn with a drink produced from a local brewery.
